Bags and Bags of style!

Sorry for radio silence this week I have NO idea where the last week has gone! I have had a busy few weeks and it won't quieten down any until October so be ready for a flurry of posts then!!

Anyway whilst I was photographing some stuff yesterday I thought I'd photograph some of my favourite bags (or purses for our friends across the pond!). I'm not a collector, I buy what I like but only when I see it at the right price!

Up first is my first ever lucite bag, it's a combination of lucite and plastic woven, you'll see by the pic. There's a few things wrong with it, it has a chip in the lid and the bottom is warped, I think someone stupidly must have put it on top of something hot at some point. However in reality you can't really see the faults and because of the faults I got it at a good price, also I don't have to worry about it too much as it's already been through a lot.

I love a bit of sparkle, well I love a lot of sparkle actually!

Here's a pic of the damaged bottom which you can only just see if you know in the pic above.

You can see the detail of the side more here, as I said I love sparkly!

Next up is a nice lucite top but metal body bag. This again I got at a very reasonable price and because it's silver AND gold it goes with everything.

It's actually a Dorset Rex, I still didn't pay much though!

Then here's a bag I have never used but don't want to until I find the right opportunity, it's never been used, I bought it in it's original box and everything is intact, but I just have not had the right time or place to use it. I took it to NY once but it was so blumming cold the night we went out to the theatre, I didn't end up dressing up as much as I'd wanted to, well it was December in NYC!

So how amazing is that, look at that compact, never used, it makes me want to use it, but I want to take it out on a special occasion! Am I mad? Please do let  me know!

Then the next 2 are my favourites, did I mention I like glittery?

I used to have a plain white lucite bag but when the opportunity came to buy this glittery one I couldn't resist, so bought this and sold my plain one. I much prefer glittery lucite to plain, unless of course it's that lovely amber colour that would be just wrong!

Then my most favourite of all

Look at that sparkle! Oh yes I'm a rhinestone and sparkle girl for sure!

These are all such works of art, I have them displayed in my bedroom, although I need to set up a better display, however they make me smile every morning.

What a fab collection. Love the bottom two especially, the shape of the bgas and handles is amazing. I too prop all my bags on my vanity in the bedroom so I can look at them!

Oh wow, these are amazing!!!!

Lucite bags are so expensive now as well - I saw loads at a place in Glasgow a couple of years ago and they were asking £100 each. :-O

They are so expensive now, although £100 is not bad Helen I've seen them for soooo much more! I still regret not buying the lime green sparkly one I found in an antique shop in Phoenix years ago for peanuts and the butterscotch beehive shape one I passed by in Pasadena *sigh*

Great bags Fiona, I love them all! I have a few glitter and confetti lucite compacts (which I collect) but I still want more!

I love those lucite bags, I keep getting outbid on eBay (mostly as I am a cheapskate hoping to get one for £5, he he!)

Mostly I love that compact bag though, you should use it! It always makes me sad when things are saved for best and not used. What if that occasion never comes and it never gets to fulfil it's purpose?

Oh Kitty I love the confetti lucite compacts too, I have a black one which is fab for the black bag too!

RC - you are so right, I should use it, but you know when you want something to have an outing? Right I will endeavour to use it before the end of the year eeek!

I adore lucite purses, I only have two, but still always look up lucite purses on ebay just to see if I can get a deal.

Love the black one!! I want a black lucite one so bad but have yet to find one at a reasonable price. Someday though, it will happen! It always does :-)

Oh jeez, I started looking at these auctions on eBay, and I had to sigh. I'd love to get a few of these but will have to poke around and look for deals.

Lucky you to have your very own!

Use the compact, if you feel special doing it ;)

Ohh I love these bags, particularly the first and last ones! I'm not a big bag person, but I have seen some lucite ones that I've fallen in love with but the prices almost made me faint! I'll stay patient though and hope the right one with the right price comes along!

Lovely, lovely, lovely! You're right, they are works of art. There was a bag a bit like your Dorset Rex at the Hayride. I didn't get in quickly enough and somebody bought it. I went back to my tent for a little weep I can tell you!

Oh what a shame, no wonder you went to your tent and had a weep!

Fiona,
This is such a wonderful post! Even though you say you're not officially a "collector" of lucite bags - you certainly have a lovely collection. I'd be thrilled to own any of them.

I also wanted to say that I feel so bad, but I somehow lost track of your blog - and so I've got tons of catching up to do. I added you to my list of favorites again, so now I'll be able to catch your new posts right away!
