Unexpectedly out of commission for a week!

My computer crashed on Thursday morning, just wouldn't start, apparently my hard drive is failing aaaargh. So my laptop is now in the shop to be fixed, worst time it could happen with a long weekend, which means that it will be the end of this coming week before I'm back in action :o(

So apologies for not commenting on blogs and lack of posts, I can use Paul's laptop but not all the time as he's busy too, so see you in a week!!

Looking forward to Easter!!

As you guessed I've been super busy still. Although it makes life all the better seeing the sunshine here in the UK, it's like a true summer day today! The windows are all open, there's no breeze, the sun is hot, aaaaah, it won't last though will it ha ha! Actually it is set to last this weekend and I'm very happy about that

So what the heck have I been up to apart from work work and more work.

Well here's a selection of photos.

We unexpectedly did a stall at the Cat's Meow club on Saturday, it was a last minute thing but we had fun, Paul also sold one of his paintings, so a good night was had by all!

Here's a picture of the artist himself, looking particularly cool and artistic like he he!

My stall with people looking, that's what traders like, people looking, well no actually we like people buying but looking is a good step! It looks strange as it was set up on a pool table, ah yes we adapt people!

Apart from working on Notorious Kitsch and Miss L Fire shoes - which is hardly a chore, talking about fabulous shoes!! - I have been doing the garden.

When I say doing the garden I mean, attempting to get the garden in some type of shape to eventually make it into a real garden. We've been here 5 years and in all that time we have done nothing to the garden apart from mow the lawn, no plants, nothing, poor neglected thing eh? Last year we finally got round to painting the fences but that was about it! This year when I looked at it in the first throes of Spring I though oh no this is the year for back breaking work! Half the lawn was covered in moss, weeds and all manner of horrible things that shouldn't have been there, so to prove my back breaking work this week, here's a pic!

It's grim isn't it? Well I have now cleared one bit, dug up the weeds and sown some seed, fingers crossed. I have soooo much more to do, but I can only manage a bit at a time, gardeners must have backs of steel!

However I did manage to get a little area to sit in sorted out, so at least when the garden starts to come together we can enjoy it! Soooo much more to do *sigh*

And I keep meaning to post this picture, some of our best friends live next door and this is the view from my back door into their garden, ah I wish it were mine!

Of course summer means fabulous salads again, this is one of my favourites, very healthy, that's creme fraiche not mayonnaise! And by the way I'm still on WW and doing ok thank you, 9lbs down :o) This salad is sweet potato and quorn sausage YUM oh and that's enough for 4 just in case you think I'm overindulging!

And last but not least, a little teaser of another project I have on the go - yes I know don't I have enough to do already.....

So there you go my last few days, I'm tired just thinking about it!

This weekend I am going to slightly overindulge in wine and gin, and I'm going to sleep and sew and sleep again, can't wait!

Knitters heads up!

Knitters just a quick post to let you know I have started to load my extensive knitting pattern collection on Etsy. It'll take me a while to get them all up but there are a few really cute ones on there already!

I've been collecting these for years, although I won't be sharing the ones I'm just about to have made by my mum!! At the moment it's mostly 40s sweaters and some 30s items, but there will be some 50s ones too, once I've decided on the ones I don't want to share!

You can get to them by clicking on my Etsy store in the left hand column. Meantime here's a few in there at the moment!! I love this one, despite listing it I still think I'll have my mum makes the sweater, not that or the mittens though, they're cute but not me!

This next one is stunning, it's complicated, but stunning, my mum made it for me years ago - I sold it on years ago too, it was so beautiful but took her ages!

That's all for now, back to juggling balls in the air!

Thursday 14 April 2011

How many balls can I keep in the air at the same time....

Well that's how my life feels at the moment! It's good, I'm busy and I have lots going on, but adjusting to doing a variety of things is taking it's toll on my blogging and in fact anything not related to working!!

This is me at the moment!

So please do excuse the sporadic blogging at the moment!

In other news, I haven't had much time for vintage finds, cheap or otherwise, eeek, but a couple of weeks ago I bought a pair of shoes. Another pair I hear you cry, well I don't need shoes that's for sure and I rarely wear heels but these beauties were a complete steal. Even though I'm not a particularly romantic sort, my husband and I want to renew our wedding vows one day, I saw these and envisaged an outfit and thought that's them! So I bought them, I have no idea when we'll do it but when we do I have the most gorgeous cream silk shoes with lovely embellishment on them, one day I'll take a pic of them on they are THE most sexy shape ever and even make my rather stubby feet and ankles look great!

This is their picture and I think the size and bad pic are what led to the price, but really they are stunning, a little more off colour than I'd hoped but I'm sure I can rectify that!

So sorry for the boring post, must get on!!

Saturday round up!

Well I have many things to report about today and it's only 3pm, lordy!

First up I wanted to take part in MaryDeluxe to list your top 5 vintage finds, I saw Leigh Ann from Voodoo Stitches took part and I thought mmmm how should I do this? There are top 5, top 5 bargainous and recent, top 5 vintage clothes, top 5 vintage shoes, you see my point?!! So I thought I'd start with my top 5 latest bargainous finds, these are not my all time favourites but it's proof that you can collect fabulous vintage things without forking out a fortune so here goes

1. My new and expanding collection of stag design glasses  - Total cost for all about £20, that's 6 sherry glasses,  6 shot glasses, 6 liquer glasses and 6 tumblers!

2. Some fabulous 1950s fabric I bought before Christmas, there is nearly 6 yards, plenty for a dress and bolero, including postage from the USA it cost me the princely sum of about £9!

3. Oriental chalkware couple, 99p from ebay!

4. Cocktail tray £2 from charity shop!

5. Red confetti lucite earrings from ebay 99p

We're all saying how expensive vintage stuff is getting these days but there are still bargains to be had out there and even on ebay, you just have to keep your eyes peeled!

So that's me started

I've had a stupidly busy week, I'm doing a lot of different things at the moment to make ends meet, but one of my favourite part time jobs which I started this week is working for Miss L Fire shoes. I'm only doing a few hours a week for them and mostly from home, but I will be popping up there occasionally and I did so this week. I have to say being surrounded by fabulous shoes is awfully distracting when you're trying to have a serious meeting, thankfully Lynsey, Sammi, Dami and Francesca all understand the distraction of shoes!!

Again I saw all the new releases coming up for Autumn/Winter, I promise as soon as I can I'll give you a preview, but meantime, my favourite shoe from the Spring/Summer collection, I will have these shoes, do you think I may be tempted to spend all my wages on shoes ha ha!

Also if you're interested I have an amazing 1930s kitchen cupboard I just put on ebay, if I had room I'd keep it but we don't. It's so stylish and sturdy I really do wish I could keep it, still I do hope it finds a good home!

It's stunningly warm in the UK at the moment and has been for the last few days, it's a pure joy, sadly I choose this time to treat my lawn for moss, actually that's not true I'm killing the moss to sew seed to make a lawn! I really am not exaggerating, so I can't sit in the garden as you're not allowed to walk on it whilst it takes effect, ah well! I'll post photos when I finally get going on the garden, it's been sorely neglected since we moved in and it wasn't good when we did so I have a lot of work to do this summer eeek!

Nothing else to report, hoping to get going on some sewing this weekend if I get chance but I'm rather snoozy at the moment so unlikely to get any done today!

Friday 8 April 2011

Phew what a week!

Hi all, sorry I've been missing in action longer than a few days but phew what a week!

First up we had a really enjoyable weekend which I'll share with you now and other news in other blog posts I guess!!

We did Brighton Jukebox fair last weekend, where we actually get to spend time with some our favourite friends and fellow small business owners/stall holders.

We arrived Friday and started to set up, this is a hideously long process for us as we have so many little bits and pieces to do but friends arrive during the process and we do have fun even though we ache at the end of the day!

We were opposite Rocket Originals, so chatting was easy, but we backed onto Heyday, fortunately Shona and I left a gap so we could chat he he!

I took some pictures on Friday before anyone gets the change to buy, man if I had limitless cash I'd just get the best choice ever!!

I really really really wanted this Moss Lamp, although it divided opinion I love it, but some didn't like the look, just as well, we can't all be the same!

Next few photos are just lovely things that were for sale in within 10 steps of my stall, talk about temptation!

I would have every last set of this jewellery

I'm a lamp gal, what more can I say *swoon*!

These Mitzi's are going to be mine one day, all mine!

This is my fave Heyday dress so far, the Fleur in black with daisies, I love it! One day this will be mine too ha ha!

And this is just a fraction of the vintage clothing that was there, I didn't even look that is just too much temptation in one teeny space!!

Friday we had a lovely night, I wish I'd taken a pic but we all looked a fright after setting up stalls all day. Me and Paul, along with Kay and Martin from Rocket Originals stayed at the Premier Inn in Burgess Hill, we got a bargainous price on it, and I like Premier Inn anyway but this one was superb, I would highly recommend it and the staff went above and beyond, excellent! We decided not to eat out but have a buffet in the room, bless the staff they brought us a wine cooler with ice, wine glasses and plates, it wasn't your normal room buffet! The 4 of us felt rather posh ha ha!

Saturday was working day, then we all agreed as we had the opportunity it would be nice for us all to have a meal together, we rarely get the chance and it's nice to have a proper conversation rather then snatched conversations between customers.

So we decided to eat at the Beefeater attached to our hotel. A fabulous night was had by all, if we all look a little tired, it's cos we are!!

I'm rubbish at taking these pictures of ourselves, how calm does Kay look and how panicked I look cos I think we're not in frame ha ha!

I know Shona from Heyday and Jan from Home Sweet Homestyle will kill me for posting this picture, but I like it cos they didn't know I was taking it!

Then we took proper photos here are the boys! From left to right Twain from Heyday, Mike from Home Sweet Homestyle, Paul my lovely husband, and Martin from Rocket Originals!

And the girls, from left to right, Jan from Home Sweet Homestyle, Shona from Heyday (sorry Shona but you closed your eyes - she doesn't normally look like this!!), Kay from Rocket Originals and little ole me.

A lovely time was had by all, food was consumed by the ton and alcohol was also consumed, although there were a couple of drivers who had to abstain, sorry Mike, our turn next time again!

It was so nice to catch up with friends.
