Don't you just hate it when....

You break something you've had forever, especially as it's survived 50 or 60 years already and then you're the one who breaks it?

Well we lost something yesterday, it was no ones fault, it's so windy here in the UK, my husband opened the door the wind blew it and totally blew over our cat vase ornament off the ledge near the door :o(

It was smashed to smithereens so not a hope in hell of fixing it. I looked all over my computer to find a pic I'd taken of it cos it looked great next to the curtains I made in the hallway but couldn't find one anywhere. There is one on ebay for sale so this is what it looked like, sad!

We won't replace it, especially as this one is up for £79, crazy money!

Anyway I feel a teeny bit better today - at last - apart from being awake half the night coughing, but still don't feel quite so much of a zombie today. I thought I would do something useful. I wanted to sew all the cushions for the living room, I'm ashamed to say I made the curtains 2 years ago!! Anyway I got 4 done, then I was just too knackered to finish another couple, I guess I'm not 100% yet, but I'm pretty pleased with how they turned out!

Here are the cushions on the sofa near the matching footstool that I recovered the other week.

And a close up

Sewing the bobble trim on made it a little more complicated but I like it!

Here is the cushion on one of our wooden chairs, near the matching curtains

I'll finish the other 2 in the week, won't take much doing.

Hope you all had a great weekend!

That is fab material and I do love the way you've made a matching set or living room accessories. Really sets off the room.

Oh what a shame about the lovely cat ornament, I am sorry but I can understand why you feel that you can not afford to replace it, pricey and some.
Love the cushions and foot stool you are a clever gal.

I know how you feel regarding the ornament! I received a beautiful teal hutch from my nana that she's had for years.. After having it a month (she's owned it for 50 years), we were reassembling it and dropped one of the glass pieces. Needless to say, I was pretty upset.

Oh yes, I had the unfortunate experience of something breaking again yesterday! See my blog. I was talking to a fellow retro lovin friend and we were remembering all the things we USED to have! If I had all the stuff that's been broken, I'd have to rent another storage!

There must be something in the air! Jon went and smashed my 1960's glass pear snack jar and I was gutted.
I'll keep my eyes open for one of those beautiful cats at the car boot sales, you never know, stranger things have happened.
Those curtains, cushions and footstool are so lovely, the bobble trim is perfect.
Glad you're feeling a bit better! xxx

Love the footstool and pillows! I may cover some of mine myself as I will never find matching anything... Matching enough for my taste, that is.

Awww sorry about the broken treasure!!

WOW! Clever girl...that living room set is amazing! Sad about the pussy cat. I Collect 50s cat and dog ornaments and have one that I've knocked over a few times, but luckily has only suffered a chipped ear! xx

Sorry to hear your still a bit poorly, I was so sorry to hear about breaking your cat, i did that with a 50's jug is was a set and i cryed over the fact that somebody else had loved it all that time it was an accident to. Hopefully you will find one cheap when you least expect it. dee x

Aww what a bummer about your cat vase. That really is the worst.

Your pillows, cushion and curtains are awesome!

Fiona,

I am so sorry to hear about your cat vase! What a shame! I hope you are able to find a well-priced replacement one day!

As for your curtains, pillows, and footstool, they are gorgeous! They look smashing! Wonderful job!

I don't break stuff. I have a husband who does it for me: Pyrex "Mod Kitchen" bowl, Westmoreland candy dish, vintage lamp. Since it's his salary that pays for the stuff I try to keep my mouth shut and so far he hasn't broken any family heirlooms, thank god. I wish I could sew--I have some very cool barkcloth that I would love to turn into pillows. Oh wait, the clumsy husband sews--maybe he could make those pillows for me since you can't break a pillow!!!

Very cool! I m tempted to order some Sanderson fabric from their new 50s collection. I have never made curtains before... i ve made hundreds of dresses... hw hard can a pair of curtains be!

I've made drapes from fake barkcloth. I was going for a 1950's look when I made them.
