What floats your boat?

Well I'm still sick, went to the docs today and it turns out I have bronchitis which in itself isn't serious, but it's very annoying & brings you down, anyway they've given me antibiotics and as I'm not one to take much medication I'm sure I'll be on the mend in no time!

So as I have pretty much been sat on the sofa for nearly a week now coughing my guts up I've done a lot of internet surfing.

Today the sun is shining, it's a beautiful day, I'm under no illusions it's February and I live in the UK, it doesn't mean Spring is here, but it does have me looking forward to wearing something more summery again!

As I was trawling through Etsy it got me to thinking about our particular loves within vintage clothing, my era is definately 50s but within that there are certain things I like and don't like.

Here is something I definately like a lot!

This is currently on Etsy in Wear it Again Sam's store ok well on Etsy they're called Wear it Again, but the shop itself is Wear It Again Sam. Actually I like a lot of their stock, they are very much to my taste. I've been lucky enough to visit the store when in San Diego and loved it, I nearly walked out of there with the most expensive coat ever, I did manage to talk myself out of it though, I was being sensible, it was stunning though!

Another item from Wear it Again Sam, I love these teatimers, so comfy & versatile, get be dressed up or down, love em, I have lots of these both vintage and self made with vintage fabric, though I do particularly like the print on this.

Next up, I do like sparkly, a LOT!

I know this doesn't look like much, but you cannot beat a lurex dress once it's on, it moves with you, it sparkles with the light, I LOVE lurex, I would have a wardrobe full of lurex dresses! The link to this one is here if you're interested.

I love love love linen dresses with embellishments, I don't know why but it's one of my things. I have 3 really nice ones - which sadly do fit at the moment - but I love this one too. People don't seem to wear them much but I think they're beautiful, I prefer them with rhinestones - did I mention I like sparkly but this is pretty cute too! You can find this here on Etsy.

Last but not least, I do like a good a good colourful print. I think a lot of what is missing in more modern clothing is colour! This is a great example of a damn good print! You can find it here if you're interested.

There's a lot more that I like, I love rhinestones, the more sparkle the better as far as I'm concerned. I love halter necks in taffeta with rhinestones of course.

What I'm not into are floral prints, I'm just not a floral print type yet I would say lot of people are and go ga ga over a floral, I don't do pink or purple really, I'm not someone who like a lot of frills or frou frou, I'd be interested to know what floats your boat, I like that we're all different so if you like a pink, floral frou frou dress I'd love to know!!

Me I am a flower girl, and a really plain dress girl (so I can wear lots of broaches and scarves) and I am a sparkle girl, I love taffeta too (but have learnt to curb that). Love them all... I think I am actually just ANY dress girl at heart

I love big and bold prints, and prints with animals for some reason. Love high-waisted trousers (Heyday, I'm looking at you up there. LOL) I'm not a big fan of lace, or shiny materials, so no taffeta, not much silk, etc. In general I think it could be boiled down to saying I like feminine details but nothing too frou frou!

The model and both the top and dress are fantastic. I'm not mad keen on many of the 1950's styles but she looks fabulous.
I like big, bold prints. I can't be doing with ditsy flowers or wishy washy colours. I do love a bit of lurex, too.
Jewellery-wise it's massive, ethnic or just plain mad. xxx

aww, I hope that you feel better soon!
I agree, I love embellishments, fancy little details, great prints and the like. I do like pink although when I wear it, I feel kind of silly but it's growing on me. I like certain types of florals. Some are way too floral for me- they look like great grandma's curtains or something. I love really whimsical, odd things like fruity prints or prints with funny little people on them. I love novelty accessories too like some of those cheesy plastic brooches featuring cowboys or clowns or parrots. I'm starting to really enjoy some of the modern rockabilly dresses too, even though I've never been thrilled about them in the past.

oooh Brittany yes I like whimsical prints too and novelty accessories!

Sending more 'get well' mojo =)

I love linen too. It just drapes so wonderfully. The weight and feel of it are divine, and it irons up especially well.

When I was younger and more into fashions, I always looked for very unique clothing. The coat with tails but styled for a woman, sweaters with "cut outs" at the shoulder (showing off your shoulders, but still having long sleeves), sleeveless turtlenecks, cashmere.

I don't care for prints, and I like muted and a Fall color palette.

I used to have this pair of black suede ankle boots that I loved! They made my feet look so tiny, they were comfy, and I wore them completely out!

Get well soon! Bronchitis is foul, even if you don't like the meds it's best to take them (if you don't you can end up with inflammation causing discomfort for months, even up to a year! Been there, not good).

Straight Talking Mama! said...

thank you Miss Atomic Ranch House! I love that people know what they like especially when it's unique clothing!

I hope you are better soon! I know what you mean about laying about on the sofa 'window shopping' when not feeling good. I did that two days last week.
I absolutely love all cotton feedsack dresses. & Sweet prints. & Pink. & Gingham. (I swing a little country)

Straight Talking Mama! said...

ah thank you, oooh yes I love feedsack, always trawling US ebay looking at feedsack!

Take it easy Fiona, bronchitis in a cold climate is a nasty beast. I love the blue linen dress, personally I hate florals too, I've bought heaps for the shop though so I hope others like them!

awww Bronchitis not very nice i hope the tablets do there thing and your feeling more like your self very soon. Great dresses, i like floral but not the Laura Ashley type it has to be the wow 60's ands 70's flower power, and sparkly glitz im a girly girl really, but like you said its good that were all so different and individual. Have a good week, dee x

I love all the dresses you posted! For everyday wear I adore 50s full skirt dresses in plain prints like dots, gingham and plaid. I also don't care much for floral though I also love Hawaiian prints. I'm a sucker for 50s frou-frou taffeta dresses with lace overlay, especially if there are rhinestones, beading or embroidery. I have several that I never wear but I love to hang them about my sewing room just to look at.

All of those dresses...swoon! I like a lot, actually. I love the '40s but I love the '50s equally and really like the '30s and some of the early '60s, too. I ADORE plaid. I'm mad for it. I like really big buttons, bows, dresses with pockets. Oh and I'm all for dresses that button all the way down because I'm lazy and don't like side zippers ;]

Also not overly keen on floral or purple. I like a little pink but not too much (though my bedroom is entirely pink ;]) I'm also not huge on wearing pencil dresses/skirts but still love them.

Get well soon!
Love the last dress, but the price is hideous! ha ha!
I'm not a fan of synthetic fabrics even though I do have some, and I hate silk (clings), satin & linen (too creasey!).
I like cotton/cotton mixes in bold patterns and bright colours - not particularly florals, apart from Hawaiian, which I love.
Fit and flare 50s shapes work best for me dress wise as im smaller on top than on bottom..typical pear!

Poor poorly you :( Chin up - meds back - right as rain in no time!

As for style. Hmmm. I flick between things most of the time. Sometimes I like plain with embellishments and others I love nothing mroe than big and bold. Pink and purple are a no though - just not me. And frou-frou? Isnt that a dog? ha ha ha.

I DO love that blue dress... hmmm.. i have not been on etsy for a while...

so lovely to hear about what you all love! It's great that we're all different

That last dress is "tha business"! Wallet watch out!

I tend to like plainer dresses with a bit of embellishment, hence I am in love with that blue one, which, guttingly, is my size but I am too poor to buy it.

*sob*

I hope it's still there in a month!

I hope you are feeling better today! I had bronchitis in November and it was horrible! I am sending positive and healing well wishes your way!

Those dresses are swoon-worthy! Oh, I wish I was rich! There are simply too many pretty things!

Oh, your poor girl! I had bronchitis once and was miserable for the longest time. Let's see, 4 days have passed - I'm hoping you're much better now!

Fabulous dresses, all of them. And the Wear It Again Sam model is so much fun with her big red hair!
