Exercise & Vintage dressing!

Let's face it, it just doesn't match up beautifully does it?

I think about this because I have just embarked on a healthy eating & exercise regime, I'm very happy to be doing it, I've been ignoring my increasing girth for far too long!!

However having just been on my treadmill and cooling down before taking a shower I'm sat here thinking, lordy if people could see me now, my hair is scraped back, I have on a t shirt, cropped exercise pants & trainers, there is nothing remotely stylish about my current attire. Now I'm not one of those vintage snobs that thinks everything has to be vintage and you have to look fabulous every minute of every day, but I do resent workout clothes! If I could look nice whilst exercising I'm sure it would appeal to me so much more!! Or maybe I'm just kidding myself.....

I wonder what your thoughts are on the matter?

And the reason I'm embarking on this regime? I can't get into the clothes I want to get into so I made myself a board which hangs above my treadmill of me in all the pretty dresses I want to get back into! I've know I've posted them before but here are a couple, and no I won't take a pic of me in my exercise gear ha ha!!

I NEED to get back in this, it's not vintage, it was made from a vintage pattern to fit me perfectly and it makes me feel a million dollars when I wear it, however right now I'm not sure it would fit on my thigh ;o)

One of my favourite vintage dresses, gold lame, they don't make lame like this anymore, I'm going to get back into that sucker soon goddamit! Oh by the way this was taken at the Rhythm Riot with my mates Ellie and Lisa.

And finally me in my exercise gear

only kidding.......!!

Welcome on board Girl !! On "casual wear to move your fabulous body".

What a fabulous golden lurex dress !!! I'm searching for one since ages but i only found copy with an halter neck pattern. This one you wear is absolutely fantastic that's a good reason to do exercise. Good luck !!! I'm with you !!!

Im a keen runner and theres absolutely no way to do that in a stylish manner! There is a gap in the market for retro styled exercise get up...spandex circle skirt anyone? ;)

That is a lovely dress! I can see why you want to get back in it. As far as exercise wear, I've always loved the thought of having those blouse and short sets like Joan Fontaine and Rosalind Russel wear in The Women, but I've never actually gotten up the energy to make a set. Nor do I know if it would be practical! But, it's an idea....

I know what you mean, someone at work asked me to join the work softball team and I said no because A: I don't know what softball is B: I don't own a pair of trainers and C: I wouldn't know what to wear that is at all appropriate, (is it wrong to wear lipstick when doing sports?). But if you have the correct attire at home, and your gold lame dress is hanging up in front of you then just go for it. Run like the wind! x

I totally agree that I would be much more likely to exercise if sportswear wasn't so horrible! This is my ideal sporty outfit:

Ah yes the blouse & shorts sets how glam!!

Oh I know Jen, I've been the same in the past, I do have it now but I don't like people to see me in it! I didn't own a pair of trainers for years, but as you get older sadly it's harder to just stay slim and formal exercise becomes a must :o(

That's *exactly* why I started exercising (and drastically changed my diet) a couple months ago, too. Not being able to fit into my fave vintage dresses KILLED me and I refused to sell them and buy bigger sizes!

And PS: I look like absolute crap when I go to the gym~ oversize tee shirt, leggings, gym sneakers, ponytail. Who cares what you look like! You're in it to better your life, not impress anyone. I'm proud of you, girl!

The other day after running at the track I needed to o to the grocery store. It was so hard to go in my sweat pants and sweatshirt. I felt like saying to everyone "I really did workout I don't really dress like this" BTW when I say running it makes me sound way more athletic than I am. I just started. I hate it but know I miss my old clothes more.

I totally agree that there should be cute vintage-y sportswear for working out! It doesn't seem to exist out there on the internets anywhere, despite the fact that up until the late 60s high school girls (in the US, anyway) usually were required to wear one piece uniforms to gym class. Last year, I attempted to make a vintage style gymsuit out of sweatshirt fleece. It was a bit of a disaster because the fleece and I really didn't get along. I plan to try again until I get something that I can wear to the gym or for running that will allow me to work out in comfort AND feel cute. But where to get cute vintage-style running shoes? Leather converse with sport insoles maybe?
